Q: Never rented storage, how does this work?A:
Determine the best location, estimate the size of space you need, decide whether your items need to be in a climate controlled unit or not, check the security specs of the location, research the business, understand the payment options available, and review the lease agreement before signing.
Q: Do you have any tips for storing my items?A:
- Rent the smallest amount of space you will need and pack the unit full.
- If possible, try to use uniform size boxes or plastic containers for easy stacking.
- Make up an inventory of your items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box away from the unit.
- Prepare your space by placing a protective cover on the floor under your goods.
- Place your storage items on 2x4 boards or on pallets to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold and damp.
- Plan your storage space. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front.
- CAUTION! Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE in an open container (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.).
- Try to leave an aisle down the center of the storage unit for easier access. Leave a small space between the walls and boxes to allow for air circulation.
- Stack heavier boxes/containers on the bottom and lighter boxes/containers on the top.
- Be sure your boxes/containers are strong enough to hold 25-30 pounds. (It is best not to put too much in each box.)
- List contents of boxes/containers on all four sides; number the boxes and seal with tape.
- Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper and packed in sturdy boxes/containers.
- Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard and marked “FRAGILE” and stacked on end.
- Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.
- Larger appliances make excellent “packing cases” for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.
- Put TV’s and other electronics in the rear of your unit.
- Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside each other.
- Tables that have removable legs should be broken down to save space.
- Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save floor space. Wrap cushions in plastic and place on top of sofas.
- Avoid placing sharp or heavy objects on top of upholstered furniture.
- Cover stuffed furniture with cardboard or blankets to protect against dust.
- If you stand mattresses on their side, prop them up so they stand straight. They may tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy.
- Wipe any items made of metal: bikes, metal tables, tools, etc. with machine oil to prevent rusting.
- Notify insurance agent that your personal property is being stored at a self-storage facility. Purchase storage insurance if you do not have proper coverage.
- Utilize a good lock (stainless steel disc lock) to help prevent break-ins.
Q: When can I schedule an appointment?A:
Anytime. You can through our online inquiry, by phone, or email. All contact information is on our website.
Q: When can I move in?A:
After you schedule an appointment with our leasing agent, Jeff, you will meet with him at the location you choose. Here he will go through the lease with you, answer any questions you have, let you choose a code to access our gated facilities, and he will provide a high security lock for you. When you sign the lease and the pin is installed into the gate (will be done after the appointment), then you can access your storage unit/ space.
Q: Can I rent temporary storage?A:
Yes. Temporary storage is normal in any circumstance. Our billing cycle runs on a calender month to month basis. We do have a one month minimum stay.
Q: How do I pay for my storage unit?A:
Payments can be made online using MasterCard, Visa or Discover or via ACH (checking or savings account) or via US Mail using a check or including money in an envelope.
Q: Are there any other fees besides monthly rent?A:
No adminsitrative, application, leasing, or lock fees will be added to your monthly payment.
Q: Do you guys have a security system?A:
Yes. Our locations we have security cameras monitoring and record the grounds. A secured gate is located at the entrance of each of our facilities that requires a pin code to be opened.
Q: Is there pest control at your facility?A:
Yes. We have a professional pest control service that inspects and treats issues at our facilities every month.
Q: What items do not need climate controlled storage?A:
Items that you believe are protected from the weather. Usually those who store their posessions outside are only doing so temporarily. Many people store RV's, large vans, boats, and cars in outdoor storage. Winters are hard on automobiles and other material goods in Wisconsin. Humid summers also take a toll on items. That is why it is important to read our blog about why most items need to be stored in a safe and controlled environment.
Q: Should I store my belongings in cardboard boxes or plastic bins?A:
Cardboard boxes are fine if you are storing items in a climate controlled unit. If you are not storing in a climate controlled unit, then plastic bins are a must. Cardboard boxes may absorb moisture in a non-climate controlled unit. Read here to learn about mold and how it grows and can be prevented.
Q: Do you guys do regular maintenance of the property?A:
Yes. We ensure that our facilities are kept to high standard. We remove snow and do regular maintenance with our buildings and gates. We make sure our facilities are safe, secure and clean.
Q: What should I do when I move out?A:
Give us a Notice to Terminate in writing per lease agreemen at least 10 days prior to the end of the current calender month. Written termination can be email, text message, or letter. Sweep and clean the unit when you move out and remove all items. Remove the padlock, close the door on the unit, and text our leasing agent Jeff at 608-695-9597 notifying him that you vacated the unit and it is clean. If the unit is not kept clean a service fee may be charged.
